Two Excellent Videos on the Tides

Here's an interesting little video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTQ6ciHENgI

The second animation is from NASA and does an excellent job too.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l37ofe9haMU&feature=related

Both are definitely worth watching.

Japan's Nuclear Crisis

The linked article at Scientific American explains the risks of nuclear power, as explained by physicists.

It seems that Japan's nuclear crisis is far from over.  However, at the same point in time, too many people in the US are using their crisis to condemn nuclear power in the US, which provides about 20% or our electricity needs and accounts for 30% of global nuclear energy generation.

Japan Earthquake

The included image shows epicenter locations of the few days before and after the huge Japan earthquake and tsunami.  Foreshocks are shown with dashed lines; aftershocks with solid lines.
Earthquake and Tsunami near Sendai, Japan
Japan is obviously on the Eurasian Plate, not the North American.  See...even NASA makes an occasional mistake.

Pray for the affected people! A lot.

Kilauea Eruption

Kilauea has been erupting almost continuously since 1983.  And it's not done yet! Over the weekend another vent opened up on the volcano, signaling yet another change in the eruption.

Here are some details and video of the eruption: http://bigthink.com/ideas/31536?nl=1

Galactic Census

I hope you've taken some time to gaze up at the night sky occasionally.  Pretty amazing, isn't it? Even if you're not "enthused" by astronomy and astrophysics, the sight of the night sky hopefully inspires some sense of awe.  If you've never read the 38th chapter of the Book of Job, it is definitely worth it.  The Lord is teaching Job a few things about humility and asks him, "Have you fitted a curb to the Pleiades, or loosened the bonds of Orion?"

I came across this blog at the National Catholic Register.  Very interesting.  http://www.ncregister.com/blog/does-the-cosmic-census-bolster-atheists-claims?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+NCRegisterDailyBlog+%2540National+Catholic+Register%2541#When:09:01:00Z

Enjoy.
